Course objectives: The contemporary musical reality is less and less crossed by those fences that kept the genres, styles, schools and communities of musicians that refer to them separate. It may therefore happen more and more frequently that classical musicians also feel the need, both to enrich their own knowledge and to tackle their profession with additional skills, to try to practice different languages than usual. Jazz has some peculiarities (such as a certain conception of rhythm, the approach to sources and notation, constant practice and on various levels of improvisation) that can usefully complement the wealth of skills for any type of musician who is intrigued by it. This course therefore aims to offer, in the very synthetic form of a first contact, basic tools that lead to the understanding and practice of jazz language through guided listening, analysis of scores but also in the form of ensemble exercises performed with accompaniment of the teacher.
